Hey,
Some weeks move too fast to understand while you’re inside them.
So this is our Sunday download, a catch-up on the stories women should know before the week begins. Just the ones that say something about our bodies, work, rights, culture, money, safety, visibility, and lives.
We looked at the week for you. Here’s what mattered for women:
First of all, Bedouin women helped reshape Israel's election through a grassroots voting campaign.
🏛️ Her Rights…
⚖️ U.S. Appeals Court Pauses Idaho's Health-Based Abortion Protection: A federal appeals court paused a ruling that had protected an Idaho doctor's ability to provide abortions when pregnancy seriously threatened a patient's health. The 2–1 decision allows the state to enforce its restrictions against that physician while the legal challenge continues.
Why It Matters: The ruling exposes the legal gap between preventing a patient's death and protecting her from serious, lasting medical harm.
🚨 902 U.S. Women Faced Pregnancy-Related Criminal Charges After Roe Fell: A Pregnancy Justice investigation identified 902 women facing 955 criminal charges across 23 states during the first three years after Roe v. Wade was overturned. Most charges concerned alleged child abuse, neglect or endangerment, often involving substance use during pregnancy, not abortion itself.
Why It Matters: Criminal investigations involving pregnancy and pregnancy loss may discourage women from seeking medical care when they need it most.
🧠 Her Body…
🧬 Experimental Uterine Cancer Drug Extends Median Survival to 19 Months: Merck's experimental drug sacituzumab tirumotecan reduced the relative risk of death by 32% in a late-stage trial involving 776 patients with advanced endometrial cancer. Median survival reached 19 months, compared with 12.1 months on chemotherapy. The treatment is undergoing FDA priority review.
Why It Matters: The results offer a potential new treatment for difficult-to-treat cancer, although serious side effects and regulatory approval remain important considerations.
💊 U.S. Removes Broad Boxed Warnings From Three Estrogen Patch Products: Federal health officials approved removing broad boxed warnings from three estradiol patch products used to manage menopause symptoms. The decision comes as demand for hormone therapy increases and shortages affect access to some treatments.
Why It Matters: Updated labeling may change how patients and doctors discuss hormone therapy, without eliminating the need to assess individual medical risks.
💼 Her Work…
💼 Bangladesh Establishes Wage Board After Garment Workers' Protests: Bangladesh has formally constituted a wage board following protests that disrupted around 30 garment factories. Workers are demanding a minimum monthly wage of 30,000 taka, more than double the current 12,500. The industry employs approximately four million people and supplies major Western fashion brands.
Why It Matters: Millions of garment workers help supply global fashion brands, yet securing wages that keep pace with living costs remains a fight.
✊ Dolores Huerta, Who Helped Transform American Labor Rights, Dies at 96: Labor organizer Dolores Huerta, co-founder of the United Farm Workers, died at 96. Through strikes, boycotts and negotiations, she helped secure healthcare, rest breaks, clean drinking water and other protections for agricultural workers, while advocating for women's rights throughout her life.
Why It Matters: Huerta's legacy shows how sustained organizing can transform overlooked workers' demands into lasting workplace protections.
💸 Her Money…
💰 American Family Caregivers Now Spend $11,508 a Year Out of Pocket: A new AARP study found that family caregivers spend an average of $11,508 annually supporting adult relatives or friends, up 59% since 2021. That represents an average of 31% of household income. Women make up a majority of American family caregivers.
Why It Matters: For caregivers earning under $40,000, these expenses consume an average of 76% of household income. Care is becoming a financial crisis.
📈 Woman-Co-Founded Kalshi Reaches a $40 Billion Valuation: Kalshi, co-founded by Luana Lopes Lara and Tarek Mansour, raised $1 billion in financing, lifting its valuation from $22 billion to $40 billion in five months. The company is expanding beyond prediction markets while facing scrutiny over products critics compare to gambling.
Why It Matters: The funding marks a major milestone for a woman co-founder in fintech, alongside important questions about consumer protection and financial risk.
🏆 Her Sports…

Gabby Williams scored 30 points, including 28 in the second half, and was named Finals MVP. Coach Natalie Nakase led the expansion franchise to a title in record time.
Why It Matters: A championship in just two seasons makes Golden State the fastest North American major-league expansion team since 1967 to win a title.
🎾 Elena Rybakina Secures Her First Year-End World No. 1 Ranking: Kazakhstan's Elena Rybakina secured the year-end women's singles No. 1 ranking after defeating Yulia Putintseva 6–2, 6–3 in Tokyo. The achievement crowns a season that included major Grand Slam victories and puts her atop the rankings for the first time.

🏡 Her Life…
📱 New York Bans Unsafe AI Companion Features for Children: New York enacted a law prohibiting AI companion chatbots from using certain manipulative or sexually explicit behaviors when interacting with users under 18. The restrictions, effective January 1, address chatbots that encourage secrecy, unhealthy behavior or misleading emotional relationships.
Why It Matters: The law could reshape digital protections for children and teenagers as families navigate increasingly humanlike AI companions.
🌡️ Extreme Heat May Increase Premature Birth Rates by Up to 18%: A Reuters analysis of millions of Mexican birth records found that heat waves during the final month of pregnancy were associated with increases in premature births of up to 18%. Researchers also linked higher temperatures with other pregnancy risks, including stillbirth.
Why It Matters: Extreme heat is becoming a maternal-health issue, particularly for women without reliable cooling, healthcare or safe working conditions.
